Why You MUST Keep Your Back Well!

13/5/2019

Stress or rather dis-stress is the leading cause of back pain!  What's that you say?

Did you know that when you are stressed, or should I say in dis - stress, this is when you don't have the resources to overcome the challenge at hand.  When this happens you only have two choices:

1.  compensate for not having the answer by doing something else and/or
2.  suppress the feeling/thought or action back down into the body!

These two things are, through my 12 years experience, what creates all of the pains, illness, conditions and diseases we have in the world today!

Continued, pro-longed and constant stress, that you cannot cope with, can and most likely will be the death of you!  It affects your ability to heal yourself, affects your ability to utilise the foods you eat and convert that into energy, it affects your ability to use your immune system effectively, creates more and more unsupportive patterns of functioning that go against maintaining the integrity of the health of your body.

Did you know that 16% of Australians suffer from chronic back pain, meaning long-term, constant pain.

70-90% of people will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives. So Why?

Did you know that with nearly all back pain there is a mental/emotional connection?

For example;
Neck pain can be about feeling inflexible in relation to a situation, event or person.
Thoracic or mid-back pain can relate to insecurity.  People watching you.
Lower back pain can be around losing your freedom or feeling a lack of support.

Yes, these are fairly ambiguous statements, however, when you understand how we function neurologically, then you begin to understand how we start to malfunction.

Firstly, when we deny ourselves something, or experience stress or trauma, or come to a conclusion about a stressful situation.  The more denial we exercise, the more we move away from our ability to recover from the events in our lives.  The more negative energy we build up, the more we seem to 'be in trouble'.    Then eventually we experience a 'reality attack' which pulls us back to ourselves.  Unfortunately, today, we are very good at stalling those reality attacks.  Because we are told they are a bad thing and we don't want to feel that way.  So we continue to live in our denial.  There are different layers to this denial, for today we are concentrating on the physical manifestation of them.

Our neurology (brain and nervous system - spinal cord and nerve  pathways) functions according to a strict set of patterns.   These patterns become disrupted as we continue to 'defend' against all these different areas of our lives.  More importantly, this limits our ability to do other things too.    Especially our ability to heal ourselves.

Back pain is an indication of neurological dysfunction.

Your brain requires good feedback from all areas to maintain effective control and function.  When you experience back pain, this feedback can be compromised.  Signals aren't getting through appropriately.

All the time you are defending,  you are not functioning at your best capacity.

Functional Neuro-Training is designed to re-train and remind your neurology how to function better.  Allowing you to come out of defending and into reality again.  Experience those reality attacks and get back to ourselves.  Your experienced Neuro-Trainer will investigate the situations, people, events and other areas that may be contributing to your back issues, but also to your general well-being too.

Sciatica and Joint problems are also an example of a more ingrained defensive behaviour in your physical body.

So next time you experience back pain, don't cover it up... contact me.  I am an experienced Functional Neuro-Trainer.   Trained and experienced in the area of functional Neuro-training to get your system working as it should...allowing you to recover, see life the way it is, so you can make the changes you need to.  Get your life back on track and suffer no more!

I am also a hormone specialist, alternative nutritional specialist and anxiety specialist.

3 Major Factors That Cause Overwhelm

12/3/2019

What is Overwhelm?
That feeling that it’s just all too much.  You know you have loads to do but you seem to go off dealing with everything but all the important things you need to do!

You end up …
  • Not able to focus on what you need to do.
  • No motivation to get what needs to be done…done!
  • Procrastination about the ‘right’ way to do it!
  • Making excuses about not having the time, energy, ability or anything else.

Let’s ponder this…  If you could chop your list down to just 3 things – how would that make you feel?  Less pressure right?

Forget about the others – just 3 things.  The 3 most important things.

If you got those 3 things done – how would that make you feel?  Awesome, huh?  What an achievement.  You’ve been trying to get those done for so long!

Let’s face it, nowadays we all have loads of ‘stuff’ to get done.  At work, at home, with our families, friends.  There’s no time to fit it all in.

Here’s your 3 majors!
  1. Not prioritising – or prioritising too many things!
  2. Not making your to-do’s SMART – be realistic – break it down if it’s a big one!
  3. The list is far too long, looking at it just makes you go into a panic!

So, let me ask you...

Question 1.     Where has the fun gone in your life?
Question 2.     Why do I always have a never ending list of stuff to do?
Question 3.     What can I do about it?
Question 4.     How is this going to change?
Question 5.     Who can help me?

Well, here's my take on it...

Answer 1.     Let’s make time for some fun! Once you start achieving, you wont feel guilty about giving                                         yourself some time to have fun!  Go enjoy yourself!
Answer 2.     You will always have a list – but let’s help you start reducing it!
Answer 3.     Learn the golden rule – Take three, Delete three, Do three, Update
Answer 4.     Do this simple thing each morning – you will reduce the overwhelm
Answer 5.     YOU.  You can do this simple task.  All you need is a new piece of paper and a pen or a new                                       digital list and you are off and away.

If you want more information about goals and to-do’s download my free e-book on acing your health and wellness goals.  You can apply these techniques to any goal or to-do, no matter how big or small.

So, get that list out right now.  If it’s in your head – definitely write them all down or start to use an app like wunderlist or asana or google tasks.  Remember – don’t get bogged down into sorting your to-do’s and spend hours categorising them.  You just need a basic list.  Take your 3 most important and urgent items from that list.  Write them down to make a new separate list.  Only 3 NO MORE!  (TAKE 3) Delete the three from your original list (DELETE 3), start working on them now (DO 3) and update your original list with any other tasks that happen to come in throughout your day (UPDATE).
Repeat the next morning.

Watch your list start to change.

Watch yourself become more focused.

Feel the difference in the motivation you have now that you achieved the tasks you set for yourself today.

Remember download my free e-book. (See below)

There are lots of tips of how to set goals and to-do’s and why we fail at them.

Want Your Anxiety Gone?  Read on...

13/12/2018

So, how are you dealing with your anxiety right now?  Taking medications, using meditation, putting up with it? Letting it control your life?  Avoiding parts of your life so you don’t trigger a reaction?

Is what you doing and how you are doing it working for you?  Can you get those feelings under control?  In the moment, do you have a technique you can use that’s effective?  Read on… I can give you a simple one that really works!!!

What if I could show you a proven method to help with those feelings?  So what about dealing with this issue for good?  How would that make you feel?  Think what you could do if you didn’t have those anxious feelings?  What kind of things would you go out and do?  Where would you go?  How would that make you feel if you could go out and do those things?

Why does it affect you and so many others?  Well, it is a natural process that is protecting us.  It’s just that the particular response you are having is inappropriate for the situation.  You just don’t understand why this response is being triggered, and you don’t always know how  you can deal with it.

Why does it stop you in your tracks and prevent you from doing so many things?  Well, anxiety is Fear gone out of control!  And what is FEAR?  Fear is a mis-perception of a situation or circumstance.  FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real!  Yup.  What you are perceiving in the moment is not actually what you need to perceive to get through it.  You are using evidence you have stored from a long time back to deal with situations happening now.  But you are using strategies for now that are not going to change what happened from a long time back.

So, who have I already helped?
  • A lady who could only drive within her suburb and never get further.  Now drives all over Perth, into the city and on the freeway.
  • A divorcee who couldn’t stop his shaking.  He used to have to load up with alcohol just to cope with a social situation and then made a fool of himself and felt bad every time.
  • A lady with PTSD following various incidents, suffered with severe anxiety and insomnia, now refers others to me as she feels so much more in control.
  • A lady who was bullied at work and treated badly by previous partner, now free from feelings of inadequacy and feeling able to get back out in the world.
  • An ex-army gentleman with anger issues, now able to keep calmer and feel more in control of his emotional outbursts.
  • A young girl with extreme anxiety of many different places and situations, now able to go to out with her family and friends freely and experience life, anxiety free
  • And many more like this, using this proven approach, individualised for you.

Now, in a little more depth if you wish …

9 Reasons your Iron Tablet may not be working...

31/10/2018

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional problems people young and old suffer with today.  Not only that, for some, iron tablets just don't make a difference.  So why?

Here are some of the main reasons people may have an iron deficiency problem:
  1. Poor diet – inadequate intake of enough mineral rich food
  2. Restrictive diet – allergies and intolerances and diets without certain food groups can again mean the person has inadequate intake of mineral rich food
  3. Altered diet – a person who has changed the types of foods they eat, e.g.  turned vegetarian or vegan recently.   Or a person who has to omit certain food types due to allergy or intolerance.  The body is not used to extracting iron from these foods alone
  4. Blood loss – heavy periods or other bleeding such as from haemorrhoids, blood nose or recurrent bruising can affect iron levels and may indicate a more serious internal problem such as internal bleeding.
  5. Increased or prolonged period of stress – creates distress in the body and can affect digestion and other functions, creating deficiencies.

What are the main symptoms of low iron:
  1. Unusual tiredness – feeling more tired than usual, extreme tiredness
  2. Paleness – pale complexion but also pale skin all over the body
  3. Shortness of breath – difficulty getting a deep breath
  4. Headaches – lack of oxygen due to low iron – which causes lack of oxygen supply to the cells and tissues of the body
  5. Dizziness – feeling dizzy and foggy headed
  6. Mouth Ulcers
  7. Cracked corners of the mouth
  8. Recurrent infections - ears, colds, sinusitis
  9. Brittle nails
  10. Palpitations – feeling heart beating faster for no apparent reason
  11. Dry and Damaged Hair and itchy Skin
  12. Acne and pimples
  13. Restless legs

The reason it is important to take the right supplements...
It is also very important to note that taking iron supplements when you have not had a proper diagnosis from your doctor can be detrimental to your health ...

Hot Flushes - Surely they are normal?

2/10/2018

What's common is not necessarily normal!

So, mum suffered with hot flushes, so did Nan, loads of women I have spoken to do... what's the worry?  I only have to get through it for a few years and then it will all be over!!!

What you didn't know!

Well, I'm going to let you into a little secret, hot flushes are very common, but they are most definitely not normal!  They are a definitive sign that there is a something happening with your hormones!  I knew that, I hear you say.  Yup but did you know that hot flushes are often a sign that there is a war going on in your hormonal system and it involves your adrenal glands.  Hot flushes are usually a result of too little estrogen and too much adrenaline!  Did you also know that too little estrogen can lead to a whole range of major health problems later on.  Some of which you may know, some you may not:

  • Osteoporosis - yup, low estrogen affects bone density and is often the cause of this disease which once set in is very difficult to reverse.
  • Cystitis or UTI's - again, low estrogen causes the urethra to thin which affects its ability to fight infection leading to increased risk of these infuriating little attacks.  Remember needing to pee every 5 seconds only to find nothing comes out!!!!  Ugh!
  • Headaches and Migraines- and on top of that, headaches start and if you have migraines these can often get worse and happen more often.
  • Plus ... fatigue, mood swings, insomnia, heart issues and more.

Estrogen is really a woman's protective hormone and if out of whack has some pretty significant effects on us, mentally, emotionally, physically and energetically.

So, What can you do about it?

You can of course opt for hormone therapy and put synthetic or bio-identical hormones into your blood to try to sort the issue out, but is this really getting to the root of the problem?

You could try a  natural approach and change your diet, there are lots of natural 'fixes' for menopause online.

You could seek out a therapist like myself.  I work with the glands that produce these hormones, seeking to balance the way they function so that the hormones work themselves out.

Whatever you decide is the best strategy I hope you found this interesting and if you wish to seek further advice, I would be happy to discuss your issues.

5 Reasons Exam/Work Stress Affects Results:

4/9/2018

Picture
Recent research suggests that the majority of people do not achieve their goals or manage to maintain motivation at work or at their studies not because of lack of support, not because they are not intelligent, but because they lack determination and passion.  So, why do we lack determination and passion?
  1. If you are afraid of exams (or people at work) you will not be able to access your intelligence.  Fear responses automatically affect our rational thought processes!
  2. If you have poor performance results in the past it is likely you have created unsupportive beliefs in your ability.  This has been shown to create repeat behaviour in poor performance.
  3. It is also likely that the reasoning you use for achieving the performance you desire is not aligned with your core values.  Therefore, the motivation you desire is not aligned with your passion.  This is also key to undermining determination and motivation.
  4. If you don't practice an effective study routine that engages all your senses and encompasses a three-fold learning platform, then you will likely not retain information well.
  5. If you are not using effective techniques to remember information then your ability to recall information when you need it is affected.
This applies to all aspects of life, whatever goals or performance we are trying to achieve.  The basic principle is the same.

So, How to Create The Right Mindset for Great Results?...
How do we make the impossible ... possible?

Anaemic or have Low Iron Levels?

31/7/2018

Picture
I keep hearing that advert on the radio about iron deficiency, have you heard it?  The one that promotes taking iron tablets!  I have seen several clients recently with low iron and all of them have taken iron supplements with no effect on their iron levels.  What's interesting is that sometimes taking iron or eating iron rich foods just doesn't work.

So... what can you do about it.

What is so often misunderstood is that all of the vitamins and minerals we have in our foods and supplements have to be utilised effectively once they enter our body.  If utilisation is the problem, then taking an iron supplement probably isn't going to make much of a difference.  In fact when balancing any nutrient we check for 13 different ways your body uses/abuses that nutrient and use any number of techniques to balance the issue.

As an experienced kinesiologist and neuro-trainer, I use muscle testing to find the related issues, minerals and patterns of imbalance contributing to your inablity to utilise or break down the iron and/or other vitamins and minerals.

Low iron can make your feel, tired, weak and even dizzy.  If you think you have low iron or have had a blood test showing low iron.  Why not get yourself balanced to utilising it better.  Did you know that its most likely to be a digestive issue, although not always.

They go out to work each day, or Fly in and Fly Out, or maybe they are out of work and trying to find a job?

Whatever their plight, some of you are suffering.  No one to understand you, no one to help you?  No one listening to your issues?

  1. Do you come home and drink every night?  Not just 1 or 2 but 5 or 6 drinks?
  2. Do you feel down and depressed?
  3. Are you under a lot of pressure?
  4. Do you experience a pounding heart or chest pain?
  5. Do you have insomnia?
  6. Do you lack energy and feel tired often?
  7. Have you lost your sex drive?

  9. Do you experience neck or back pain?

These are all signs that you are likely under a lot of pressure.  And your mind and body are reacting to that pressure.

So, what can  you do about it?

Yes, you can learn to meditate.  This goes a long way to help to quiet the mind and body to allow to recover from the pressures of your life.  Can't or don't meditate.  What else can you do?

Have a massage or see a counselor.  This too can be helpful in many ways?

How about helping yourself to deal with the challenges you face?
  1. What if you could find a way that didn't involve talking or meditating?
  2. A way for you to be better at what you do.
  3. Not feel the pressure and be able to cope with your everyday pressures?
  4. A way that included checking your nutritional needs
  5. A way that gave you take home remedies to help you along the way

7 Signs You Are Too Stressed!

18/5/2018

  1. Waking in the night
  2. Poor appetite
  3. Headaches
  4. Back/Neck Pain
  5. Digestive Issues
  6. Mood swings
  7. Poor memory
If you experience any or all of these symptoms then it is likely you are over challenged or over stressed.  What does that mean?  When we are over stressed it means that we don't have the information or the resources to achieve the task ahead of us.  Whatever it may be.  As a result, we have to try to do our best in this situation.  Because our brain and nervous system know we can't do it, it mounts a defensive reaction and will instigate the fight or flight response.  Even though this thing isn't going to kill us, our subconscious believes that it is a significant threat to us. Now we have to continue with what we are doing, but without the use of a rational mind and having all our energy geared up to fight or flight.
Now you are running on survival.
Stress hormones are running the show.
When this happens some elements of normal functioning are put on 'hold' whilst you deal with the immediate threat.
When in this survival response, we create compensations for functioning and will often suppress things too.  These compensations and suppression use up a lot of our energy that we would otherwise use for living.  If left to run as part of normal functioning they can create dis-ease and disharmony within our thoughts, emotions and physical functioning that lead to conditions and problems later on.
There is an old saying Prevention is better than Cure!
As a Neuro-Trainer we verify imbalances in any part of the person using muscle monitoring and use anything from hormone balancing, meridian therapy, physical manipulation or emotion defusion and more to bring balance back, re-train the person's neurology to function as it should and use all our resources to do life.
